Day 10

As promised, I re-watched Tim Urban’s TED Talk on procrastination. He excels at explaining complex concepts through simple explanations and drawings. I highly recommend checking out his website, “Wait But Why,” for his unique take on various topics. I also found his book, “What’s Our Problem?” very thought-provoking and engaging. Hopefully, he will write another book in the future.

After watching Tim’s TED Talk (and before I started writing this), I came across another TED Talk by Randall Munroe titled “Comics That Ask ‘What If?” I found it extremely interesting and will definitely follow his work going forward. I plan to check out his books as well, so be sure to visit his website xkcd,

In the spirit of these TED Talks, I have decided to write some of my own Questions and Answers.

Question: If you were a close friend of George Clooney, and went to see the movie “Ticket to Paradise”, would you be honest with him and tell him the movie was terrible.

Answer: I would have to be honest, but instead of just blurting out that the movie was awful, I would kind of deflect, and say “Looks like you had a lot of fun while filming the movie “Ticket to Paradise”, was the island really as nice as it looked” He has to know himself that the movie was not that good, so no use piling on

Question: If you went to Bobby Flay’s house for lunch, and he told you he was making turkey sandwiches, would you be upset if he used sliced deli meats, store-bought bread, and Hellmanns mayonnaise.

Answer: I don’t think that Bobby goes all out for every meal. I definitely would not expect him to pull out some sliced deli meats, but I’m sure he would use freshly baked bread from a local bakery. He may try to make a spread for the sandwiches, but it wouldn’t upset me if he used a store-bought jar of mayonnaise. The plus is that he would probably use fresh vegetables and also prepare a nice side.

Question: If you were mistakenly given change for 20.00 when you paid with 10.00, would you let the cashier know, or pocket the extra 10.00

Answer: I tend to think of myself as an upstanding citizen and would mention to the cashier that I gave them a 10 and got the wrong change. But if I was having a tough day, or the cashier was really rude and unfriendly, I may take the money. Also depends on where this occurred, and If I knew the cashier would get in trouble at the end of the day.

Question: Why do you want to be a contestant on the CBS show Survivor

Answer: The concept of the show has always fascinated me. Today, after 20 years, and 57 Seasons, after every episode, I find myself asking if that is how I would act or react? I never go a day without Survivor or Survor-related pops into my head. Example: While getting my laptop set up at Starbucks this morning, I pulled out my old wired headphones, which were tangled up. As I untangled them, I imagined being on a Survivor challenge and tried to go as fast as I could but also remain calm.

I also like to see ordinary people get opportunities to step out of their comfort zone for the chance of adventure. While I don’t mind the occasional actor, athlete, or other famous people on the show, the core of the show is the relationships that are formed between contestants, and the fact that everyday average people are given the same chance as everybody else to come out on top.

Truthfully, since the show premiered back in 2000, and I started applying, it has never been about the money or the fame. I never looked at it as a way to get seen on TV, or later on, to promote my brand. I do admit, that I sometimes think it would be cool to go back to my High School, or College reunions as a Survivor contestant (Hopefully as the winner) I hope it would not change me that much as a person, and I would be able to still act the same when talking to my family and friends.

I will be back again tomorrow with another entry. If there is anybody out there who reads this and has a question you want me to answer, or any topics you want me to address, let me know. Even at 58 years old, I am always looking for ways to expand my knowledge and mind

Also, I am still looking for a new job/opportunity. If anybody knows anybody who is looking for a NetBackup / System / DataCenter Administrator, feel free to send them my way. Resume and References can be provided
